5 Best Coffee Shops in the Rice Paddies in Hoi An

Today, I’m taking you to discover the 5 best coffee shops with a view of the rice paddies in Hoi An.

In recent years, it has become trendy to enjoy a coffee while taking in the breathtaking view of the lush green expanses of the surrounding rice paddies. The first cofee shop to adopt this concept opened its doors in 2020. It is the Roving Chillhouse, which I will tell you more about below.

Whether you’re a photography enthusiast or just looking for a relaxing getaway before starting your day of sightseeing, these coffee shops will offer an immersive experience at the heart of Vietnamese culture and natural beauty.

That said, coffee shop with a view of the rice paddies also mean that after the rice harvest, you will have a much less impressive and interesting view… It’s something to consider

Opened in 2020 in Hoi An, the Roving Chillhouse quickly established itself as the must-visit cafe with a view of the rice paddies.

Instead of being surrounded by bland walls adorned with overly bright decorations, the space here is open, minimalist, and welcoming. From any seat you choose, the view overlooks the rice paddies, making this place an excellent spot for Instagram.

Settle down on one of the sofas and enjoy a coffee or a drink. That’s life in Hoi An too :).

It’s a bit more expensive than average in Hoi An, but the setting is worth the cost. Personally, it’s the best café with a view of the rice paddies in Hoi An.

Whether it’s a break during a bike ride in the area or just to relax and enjoy the view, this place is highly recommended for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Hoi An and savor the moment in an idyllic setting.

Opened in early 2024, this is a new addition among the cafés with views over the rice paddies in Hoi An.

Located in an idyllic setting, this small, secluded café offers a perfect escape for those looking to get away from urban bustle. Just a few minutes by bike from the old town of Hoi An and An Bang beach, this peaceful and beautiful place overlooks lush rice paddies, providing a spectacular view and a serene ambiance.

The café is renowned for its excellent avocado coffee (60,000 VND), but it also offers a variety of very special Vietnamese coffees, such as salted coffee, iced coconut coffee, and egg coffee. In addition to beverages, a variety of tasty dishes are available, including delicious smoothies and fresh fruit juices.

Lovers of Western fusion cuisine will be delighted by options such as avocado eggs (105,000 VND). Moreover, avocado features prominently in many dishes on the menu.

Just a few steps from the Roving Chillhouse and located on a peaceful road flanked by lush green rice paddies, this coffee shop is much, much more local and to some extent, more authentic. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by a rustic and rural atmosphere, characterized by decor that echoes the simplicity of the countryside.

Small green plants, objects in natural hues like straw, and tables made from shutters create a welcoming and warm setting.

The place is particularly popular early in the day, from 7 AM to 9 AM, when locals come in large numbers to enjoy the fresh air.

The coffee shop also has small chairs placed right next to the rice paddies, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the peaceful environment. Here, you can spend hours contemplating the green expanses while savoring a fresh drink.

This hidden gem, despite its growing popularity, retains a relaxed and welcoming ambiance. Therefore, this coffee shop is an excellent option for those looking for a relaxing break in the heart of an exceptional natural setting.

Located about 7 km from the ancient town of Hoi An, this exceptional coffee shop is situated next to an old brick kiln that was abandoned 20 years ago. This place, combining history and nature, attracts not only coffee lovers but also photographers and tourists seeking tranquility and natural beauty. Like the Roving, it’s an Instagram spot.

The cafe offers a soft and relaxed ambiance, with no music, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the serenity of the surroundings.

The establishment is small with a simple style that blends harmoniously into the environment of the surrounding rice paddies. The bamboo path leading from the cafe to the old brick kiln offers a pleasant walk, highlighted by breathtaking views of the rice paddies.

Drink options range from 35,000 to 50,000 VND and include interesting choices such as blue bean tea, salty coffee, and coconut coffee, all characterized by a strong coffee flavor.

To access the cafe, you need to purchase a ticket for 25,000 VND or order a drink or dish at the restaurant, which may seem a bit expensive, but is justifiable by the location and the experience offered.

The old brick kiln, with its nostalgic arched doorway, represents a major point of interest, especially recommended at sunrise or sunset. The best time to visit and capture the beauty of the flowering rice paddies extends from April to June, when the climate is ideal and the landscape is at its peak.

This coffee shop is perfect for those looking for more than just a coffee break. Although the drinks may not be extraordinary, the overall experience, mixing nature, history, and tranquility, makes it a must-visit place, especially for photographers and those who appreciate peaceful escapes away from the usual tourist hustle.

  • The setting with the old kiln
  • View of the rice paddies
  • Overall experience
  • Small cafe
  • Drinks quite average

Chillax Eatery & Hangout

  • Address: Nguyen Trai, Hoi An
  • Hours: 7:30 AM – 8:30 PM
  • Price Range: 40,000 VND – 100,000 VND

If you’re looking for simplicity, you’re in the wrong place. The word that best characterizes this coffee shop is: excess.

Opened in 2022, Chillax Eatery & Hangout Hoi An is the largest coffee shop with a view of the rice paddies in Hoi An, covering an area of 3,000 square meters.

This cafe draws inspiration from the traditional style of Ruong houses in Quang Nam (province of Hoi An). The establishment consists of rows of colorful houses, built from recycled materials such as jars, old windows, wooden chests, as well as antique tables and chairs.

Many objects once considered waste are creatively and innovatively revived by Chic Chillax Hoi An. At the heart of the establishment there is also a space dedicated to the exhibition of unique artisanal and agricultural objects, witnesses of the past.

They have pushed the concept of Instagram cafe to the extreme, meaning a cafe dedicated to photos for social networks, with animal sculptures and a white piano placed in the middle of the rice paddies (WTF), just so that the Vietnamese can all take the same flavorless Instagram photos.

  • Decoration
  • Excessive Instagram cafe concept

My Review

My favorite by far remains the Roving Chillhouse. It was the first to open with this concept of a view over the rice paddies in Hoi An.

The Old Brick Kiln Cafe offers the opportunity for a stroll around Hoi An before enjoying a coffee.

Compared to the cafes I mentioned earlier, the Chillax Eatery & Hangout in Hoi An seems too excessive in all respects (immensity, decoration, everything is made for Instagram). Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged that the coffee remains of good quality.
