How a Paragliding Flight in Da Nang Unfolds

It all starts at Buu Dai Son Pagoda, located at 31 Hoang Sa Street, Da Nang. That’s where you meet the guide. The check-in is quick and easy, nothing complicated. Once everyone’s ready, you take a taxi up to Ban Co Peak, about 20 to 25 minutes of winding mountain road.

Takeoff happens from the summit of Ban Co, on the Son Tra Peninsula, at around 700 meters of altitude. The view up there is already impressive, even before taking off. They equip you calmly, check the wind conditions, and when everything’s good to go, you walk toward the edge… and suddenly, you’re airborne.

During the flight, you glide over Linh Ung Pagoda, its massive Quan Am statue, My Khe Beach, the rooftops of the city, and the tropical forest below. Honestly, the contrast between the ocean, jungle, and cityscape is stunning. The flight lasts around 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the conditions.

Landing takes place on Man Thai Beach, right by the water. There’s no rough impact, it’s a smooth landing, either on your feet or sitting, depending on the speed. Afterwards, they give you a small official certificate as a souvenir. Not essential, but it’s a nice touch.

The price depends on the provider, but in general, you’ll pay between 1,800,000 and 2,200,000 VND for a tandem flight. This includes the transfer to the takeoff site, full equipment, a 20-minute flight, and supervision by a certified pilot. Honestly, considering the level of organization and safety, I think it’s fair.

If you want photos or a video, it’s often an extra option. Expect to pay about 500,000 VND more if you want a memory card or a download link with your images. Some packages include it by default, but it’s not always clearly stated, so make sure to ask before booking.

Is Paragliding in Da Nang Safe?

That was my first question before booking, and honestly yes, it’s very well managed. All the providers are licensed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense, and they follow a strict legal framework. The equipment is certified, the pilots are experienced, and every flight starts with a safety briefing.

You’re properly geared up, every strap is checked, and they explain exactly what to do and what not to do. Nothing is left to chance. And once you’re in the air, you can tell the pilot is fully in control. Even when the wind shifts a bit, they adjust instantly and calmly.

If you’re afraid of heights or naturally cautious, know that everything is handled professionally. I never felt unsafe, not on the ground, and not in the air. And I’m not someone who takes risks lightly.

Who can go Paragliding in Da Nang?

If you weigh at least 40 kg and are over 1.3 meters tall, you’re good to go. You don’t need to be in top physical shape or have any paragliding experience. You just need to be able to walk a few steps during takeoff.

That said, it’s not recommended if you have heart problems, high blood pressure, anemia, or a serious fear of heights. It’s not a free fall, but you’ll still be hanging several hundred meters above the ground, you need to feel okay with that.

The flight itself is gentle. It’s not like skydiving. You glide with the wind, no sudden drops, just smooth motion. Even if you’re a bit nervous at first, most people relax quickly once in the air.

In short, if you’re looking for something original, not too extreme, but definitely out of the ordinary, it’s worth trying. No need to be a thrill-seeker.

My Opinion

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I absolutely loved it. It’s not the longest or most intense activity, but the setting is exceptional. Seeing the sea, the forest, the pagodas, and the city of Da Nang from above gives you a perspective you just can’t get from the ground.

What I especially enjoyed was the peacefulness of the flight. You barely hear anything but the wind, you’re floating above the landscape, and you really have time to take it all in. The feeling of freedom is real, and not at all overwhelming.

Would I do it again? Yes but not just anytime. I’d pick a day with good visibility and a nice late-afternoon light. And I’d book in advance, since it’s not always available at the last minute.

All in all, it’s an experience I definitely recommend, whether you’re visiting or living in the area. You don’t need to be a daredevil to enjoy it.
