The Best Rooftops in Hoi An for a Unique Experience
Living in Hoi An means discovering its charming alleys, shimmering lanterns, and beautifully preserved architecture that often makes you feel like you’re traveling back in time. But what I love most is seeing this city from above. From the rooftops, Hoi An reveals a different side: rooftops stretch endlessly, bathed in the soft light of the sunset, while the bustling streets below seem to pause for a moment.
Each rooftop here has its own unique vibe. Some are perfect for relaxing with a coffee or cocktail, while others provide ideal spots for capturing Instagram-worthy photos. What adds to their charm is the rule that limits building heights to preserve the harmony of the old town. No towering 30-story buildings to ruin the scenery—just authentic, serene views, with the tallest structures in the old town reaching no more than four stories.

Faifo Coffee: The Most Famous Rooftop

Faifo Café had been on my list for quite some time, recommended by countless blogs and visitors. Located in the heart of the old town, this café is renowned for its rooftop offering a spectacular view of the terracotta roofs and the bustling streets below. I must say, the view is truly breathtaking, especially at sunset. But beyond that, my experience was somewhat mixed.
On the one hand, the rooftop ambiance is pleasant, especially if you arrive early in the morning before tourists flood the place for their photos. However, it can quickly turn chaotic: people crowding to snap shots without even ordering anything, and specific spots reserved solely for photography. I found this frustrating, as it detracts significantly from the charm of the place. As for the drinks, they’re decent but not memorable. The coconut coffee is enjoyable, but the prices are undeniably high for what’s offered, and the quality of the desserts is quite disappointing.
Ultimately, Faifo is worth visiting primarily for the view. If you’re willing to brave the crowds and tolerate some inconveniences, you’ll get to enjoy one of the best panoramas in Hoi An. However, if you’re after a great coffee or a relaxed experience, this may not be the best choice. For me, it was an interesting visit, but not a place I’d return to regularly.
Me Hoi An (formerly The Chef)

Located at 166 Tran Phu Street, this café-restaurant has quickly become one of my favorite spots for an evening cocktail. Climbing the wooden stairs to the rooftop, I was greeted by a breathtaking view of Hoi An’s rooftops. Honestly, there’s no need for a drone to capture the magic of a sunset here!
The first time I visited, it was for coffee, and I absolutely loved their coconut iced coffee. Not overly sweet, with a subtle touch of coconut—perfect for the heat. My second visit was for cocktails, and… wow. Nicolas, the manager, recommended his signature cocktail, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”. It’s not just a drink—it’s an experience. Fresh, well-balanced, and absolutely delicious.
Memories Brunch & Café, a Hidden Gem

As an expatriate, I’m always on the lookout for places slightly off the beaten path to fully soak in Hoi An’s unique vibe. Memories Brunch & Café, tucked away in a quieter street of the old town, is exactly that kind of spot. Less crowded than popular rooftops like Faifo or 92 Station, it’s a true gem for those seeking a tranquil and authentic retreat.
The rooftop terrace offers a stunning view of Hoi An, especially during sunset, when golden hues illuminate the old town’s rooftops. The atmosphere is warm and serene, making it perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle while enjoying a good coffee. I tried their coffee—it was delightful—and their avocado toast, which was fresh and generously served. Special mention goes to their chocolate croissant, surprisingly better than many I’ve had in French bakeries!
What stood out to me was the attentive hospitality of the team. The manager, who even speaks French, is incredibly welcoming and goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable. Whether for brunch, a drink with friends, or simply to enjoy the view in peace, Memories Brunch & Café is a must-visit. It’s a true haven of tranquility in Hoi An, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a quiet and relaxing moment away from the crowded hotspots.
92 Station Restaurant & Café

92 Station, with its four floors, is undoubtedly one of the best spots to admire Hoi An from above. The climb to the rooftop requires a bit of effort, but once you reach the top, the view is absolutely spectacular. Hoi An’s rooftops, the bustling streets below, and those golden sunsets—it’s like a living painting that never gets old.
Let’s be honest: you don’t come to 92 Station for the drinks. I tried their coconut iced coffee (yet again), which was fine but not remarkable. The same goes for their egg coffee, which was pretty standard compared to other spots in town. The prices are a bit steep for Hoi An, especially given the average quality. But ultimately, you’re paying for the view and the experience.
Despite the ordinary drinks, this is a place I’d still recommend for a break, especially in the late afternoon. If you enjoy capturing memorable photos or simply soaking in a peaceful moment with an unbeatable view, 92 Station is an excellent choice. Come for the scenery, but keep your expectations modest when it comes to the menu.
The Deck Hoi An – The Highest Rooftop in Hoi An
Located atop the Royal Hotel, The Deck has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Hoi An to enjoy a cocktail while admiring the sunset. With its rooftop perched on the 9th floor, it’s one of the few places offering such an impressive panoramic view of the city and its winding canals. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day.
The cocktails, though pricier than in other local bars, are worth the splurge. I tried the Golden Spice and Hoi An Street, both of which were as flavorful as they were refined. The happy hour, with its 1+1 deals, is a great opportunity to enjoy these drinks while staying within budget. Special shoutout to the staff, who are not only attentive but also incredibly welcoming. Trinh and Linh, in particular, made my visit even more memorable with their warmth and professionalism.
What truly sets The Deck apart is the overall experience: well-crafted cocktails, a chic and relaxing ambiance, and an unparalleled view of Hoi An, especially at sunset. Sure, the prices are a bit high, but for a unique moment in such an exceptional setting, it’s worth every dong. Whether you’re a cocktail enthusiast or simply seeking an unforgettable panorama, The Deck is a must-visit in Hoi An.
LaQue Restaurant & Coffee

This café pleasantly surprised me with its peaceful ambiance and refined setting, making it the perfect escape from the bustling streets of Hoi An. Spread across four floors, it offers a breathtaking view from its rooftop, ideal for admiring the old town. The sunset here is particularly stunning, bathing the tiled rooftops in golden light. It’s a place where you can truly relax while savoring delicious drinks, like their signature lychee tea, which is a must-try.
This café isn’t just about drinks. It also houses an art gallery on the second floor, adding a cultural touch to the experience. The space is thoughtfully designed, with cozy corners to unwind and a natural breeze that keeps the atmosphere pleasant even during the day. As for the food, the dishes are equally impressive. If you’re looking to discover local specialties like Cao Lau, this is the perfect spot.
However, not everything is perfect. The prices are a bit high for Hoi An, and the lack of air conditioning can make the upper floors warm during midday. Additionally, while the drinks are good, they’re not necessarily the best in town. Despite these minor drawbacks, this café remains a must-visit for its unique ambiance and stunning views. A true oasis of peace to recharge in the heart of the old town.
My Opinion
I tend to avoid the Tran Phu Street rooftops, which are often overcrowded, particularly Faifo Coffee and 92 Station. While they remain excellent rooftops, my favorite is Me Hoi An, which I first discovered when it was still called The Chef.
Memories Brunch is, for me, a hidden gem because it’s located in a quieter area on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. To top it off, their coffee is excellent, and their pastries are delightful.
For those who enjoy tranquility, The Deck Hoi An is outstanding. It’s rarely crowded in the evenings, so most of the time, you have the place to yourself. Savoring a cocktail on Hoi An’s highest rooftop—admit it, you’ve experienced worse.
