Hoi An Memories Show | Tickets, Schedule & Full Guide
Hoi An Memories isn’t your average street performance. The stage alone covers 25,000 square meters – so forget any ideas of a small local theater. This is a massive production, featuring over 500 actors and dancers. And for just over an hour, you’ll be taken on a journey through 400 years of Hoi An’s history, all from the comfort of your seat.
The show walks you through the major milestones of Hoi An, back when it was a key trading port in the 16th and 17th centuries. It’s dynamic, well-executed, and gives you a sense of how Hoi An became a cultural crossroads on the famous Silk Road. You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy it.

What is Hoi An Memories Land?
Hoi An Memories Land is the name of the complex that includes the Hoi An Memories show and the Hoi An Impression Theme Park. The show is a large open-air performance, while the park is a small themed area with sets inspired by the city’s history. Both are located on Cam Nam Island and share the same entrance. Access to the park costs 50,000 VND extra, unless you get a combo ticket.
My Take on the Hoi An Memories Show
If you’re looking for something truly spectacular, this show definitely deserves a spot on your list. Hoi An Memories is a massive outdoor performance spread across 25,000 m², featuring over 500 actors. This isn’t your average local theater performance – it’s on a whole different level.
There’s no voiceover guiding the story. Instead, there’s one simple idea tying everything together: life is a tapestry woven through time, each person a thread, each era a new color. It all starts with a woman at a loom. The clicking and sliding of her weaving sets the rhythm for the show’s opening. Then, Hoi An begins to take shape right in front of your eyes – from rice paddies to village homes, royal weddings to bustling markets.
The show is split into five main acts
1. The Roots of Hoi An
You see the very first settlers arriving, building homes, farming, fishing… It’s visually powerful, very immersive, and realistically performed. Planting rice, sawing wood, casting nets – it all feels authentic.
2. A Royal Union
This scene depicts the wedding between Princess Huyen Tran and Champa King Jaya Sinhavarman III. A political alliance brought to life through dance, with a royal parade and even a giant rolling elephant on stage.
3. The Lantern and the Wait
A poetic moment where a woman waits for her husband, lantern in hand. No dialogue, just visuals and emotion. It’s a quiet, touching tribute to patience, loyalty – and the arrival of lanterns in Hoi An.

4. The International Port
You’re transported to Hoi An in the 16th century, the peak of its trading days. There are ships, merchants, colorful costumes – and it becomes clear just how important Hoi An was as a hub on the Silk Road.
5. Tradition Meets Modernity
The finale blends traditional Vietnamese dance with modern choreography. Think giant moving structures, light shows, vibrant costumes – a true visual feast that ends the show on a high note. And honestly, time flies – you won’t even notice it’s been an hour.
Useful Information
- Subtitles are available in English and Vietnamese, displayed on two screens at the front of the stage. Honestly, you won’t really need them – the visuals speak for themselves.
- The show is accessible to everyone, even if you don’t speak Vietnamese or English.
- The staging is well-paced, nothing drags on, and the transitions are smooth from start to finish.
How to Get to Hoi An Memories?
The Hoi An Memories show takes place on Cam Nam Island, which is easily accessible from Hoi An’s old town. You have two options to get there:
- The first bridge, from Luong Nhu Bich street, takes you straight to the main entrance of the park. It’s the easiest option if you’re on foot, by bike, or on a scooter.
- The second bridge, newer and recognizable by its golden arches, is reserved for show spectators only. It’s closed to the public outside of show hours, but it opens before and after the performance to let guests enter or exit easily. It leads directly to the area near the stage.
In both cases, expect a short walk, so it’s best to arrive at least 30 minutes before the show starts to avoid any last-minute stress. Parking is available near both entrances.
Hoi An Impression Theme Park: Is It Worth Visiting?
Before the show, you can visit the Hoi An Impression Theme Park for 50,000 VND. The Hoi An Impression Theme Park opens at 4:00 PM.
It’s a life-sized set meant to represent Hoi An through the centuries, with costumed performers, a few mini-scenes, and reconstructed traditional houses.
On paper, it sounds promising. In reality, it feels mostly like a backdrop. The atmosphere is fairly artificial, with pop music playing through speakers and small performances that lack real interest. You’ll mostly come across low-quality souvenir shops and a street-style food court where the food is overpriced and not nearly as good as what you’ll find in town.
And after the show, don’t expect to just walk out freely – the exit path forces you to pass through all the shops and restaurants, which somewhat ruins the finale.
In short, the park is okay if you want to kill 30 minutes, but you’re not missing much if you skip it. The low price reflects the experience. If you’re only coming for the Hoi An Memories show, you can skip the park without regrets.
My Opinion
The Hoi An Impression Theme Park isn’t essential, but the Hoi An Memories show is definitely worth it. It’s by far one of the best performances I’ve seen in Vietnam.
I really enjoyed the staging – especially the Ao Dai dresses and conical hats in the opening scene. The wedding scene with the rolling elephant also stands out as a highlight.
My only criticism is the lack of narration. You can follow the story through the visuals, but a bit more context would have been appreciated.
